Embracing the Journey: A Coastal Run and Its Inspiration

Embracing the Journey: A Coastal Run and Its Inspiration

As September unfolds, I am deeply immersed in the adventure of running the entire West Cornwall coast, from Marshland Mouth to Penzance. With around eight long runs of approximately 15km each left to complete this journey by year’s end, I’m preparing for three more segments this weekend.

Each run is a sensory immersion into the rugged beauty of the Cornish coastline. Last weekend, I revelled in the textures and colours of the coast—the turquoise ocean, the rocky paths beneath my feet, and the whisper of autumn ferns. I explored sandy dunes, magical caves, and abandoned mines that evoked the stark beauty of a rocky desert. The evening light painted the landscape in shades of gold, transforming the coast into a living canvas. Quiet moments, with the distant crash of waves and the faint cry of birds echoing through the silence, added to the serene atmosphere.

These runs are more than just physical pursuits; they are explorations of textures and silences that profoundly inspire my work. The contrasts between harsh, rocky cliffs and soft, sandy beaches speak to me in a language of their own. The cool sea breeze, the earthy smell of the trails, and the play of light on the water all weave into a rich tapestry of sensations.

As I traverse these paths, I collect experiences like precious gems—each moment a fragment of this coastal journey. The rugged textures and deep silences are transmuted into jewellery designs.

Thank you for joining me on this adventure. I look forward to sharing how these vivid experiences will shape my upcoming collection, infused with the spirit of the Cornish coast.

My process is slow and deliberate. It takes time to transform these feelings and experiences into pieces of jewellery you can treasure. My dream is to capture the silence, the sensory soothing, and the wild beauty of Cornwall in each piece. I hope to create something you can wear and feel—like owning a piece of Cornwall itself, a reflection of its deep connection with nature and a quiet moment amidst life’s distractions.
